About Sarah Kiser

After returning from a Disney College Program photography internship in 2020 and getting her feet wet in scholarly publishing, Sarah is eager to focus on her paralegal studies while continuing to practice photography and technical theatre. She has been accepted to Meredith College’s Paralegal Certificate Program beginning Fall of 2025.

Sarah loves her current employment at The Carolina Theatre of Durham creating shows with lights, sets, and sound cues, something she has done since age 14, even before the fateful journalism camp that focused the trajectory of her ambitions.

Sarah’s many passions, disparate as they may seem, are all essential to her lifelong goal of making books. Consider the steps that precede the most beautifully bound books. First the author must be inspired, and where better to be so than the real life problems and solutions that reporters seek every day? Next, one must have the diligent eye for detail that Sarah has gained through years of editing. And, let’s not forget, one must set the scene in the reader’s mind and on the cover design. Stage managing countless shows enables Sarah to write movement into scenes and to design covers that convey that movement, inviting the reader to dive into that world, maybe even see themselves a bit. Finally, though, comes the legal bit. It would be a horrible shame for the author’s work to be lost in the crowd, caught in red tape, or left unprotected from plagiarism.

Sarah seeks to create another option for authors. A strong legal understanding of intellectual property is the next essential step on Sarah’s journey to opening her own publishing company. A decent understanding of tax law might help as well.

She belives becoming a paralegal will provide a fulfilling career, enabling the access, skills, and knowledge to directly solve people’s complex problems. The experience gained will prepare her to confidently run a publishing company, where she can edit and create her most favorite thing in the world and give voice to those who might meet only closed doors.

Sarah has loved literature her entire life. A fastidious student and quick learner, she completed her Bachelor of Arts at Meredith College with a double major in English and mass communications. Naturally, her passion for discovering life’s truths in fiction inspired her studies in English, and her desired career in journalism encouraged her every day in her mass communications degree. To that end, Sarah championed free press on campus as the Associate Editor, then Editor-in-Chief, of The Meredith Herald and interned as a writer at IndyWeek.

Sarah’s eagerness for gaining new skills also led her to pursue two minors in professional writing and media presentation, and French. Six years of scholastic journalism, coupled with her studies and intense internship covering local protests and legislation, has prepared her for a career in print and online journalism.

Since graduation, Sarah has had the opportunity to return to one of her first loves, photography. She worked as a Photopass photographer at Walt Disney World where she had four months to practice getting a perfectly balanced shot every time in a crowded, energetic environment. This post allowed her to exceed expectations by exploring creative angles and poses to capture genuine, spontaneous love and joy in a short session.

Sarah has also worked in videography and marketing at Camp Rockfish where she served as the summer media director. She used photography and video to capture every moment of camp activities, then compiled them into exciting videos advertising the camp’s fun, safe, and religious qualities.

A jack of many trades, she has gained a variety of skills including: editing newspapers, literary criticism, dark room and DSLR photography, technical theatre, French–speaking, reading, writing, and translation; and proficiency in Adobe softwares: Premier Pro, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
